Update on auto accident: If I did not have insurance, I would owe over $800 to fix my car and almost $1400 to fix that damn Denali. Hmm, I guess I'm glad I have insurance and I sure hope that three months from now I don't need to have any.
I'm doing a very bad job catching up with people. More efforts tonight.
I saw The Usual Suspects. If you have never seen it, skip to where it says HERE on the blog, so I don't ruin it for you. At the risk of being shot/screamed at I will say: it wasn't that great. It was a good twist at the end, but I had my suspicions for the better part of the film about it, where as other film like The Sixth Sense or Shawshank Redemption, I had no idea what was coming. Also, once I figured it out, I noticed that there were several times where the film deliberatly told the story out of sequence or tied things together that weren't really tied together to mislead the viewer. I felt like I had just listened to someone tell a big story and then say it never really happened. I can appreciate a film that uses clever technique, suggestion, and character to leave the viewer guessing at the end, but to just lie seems like a cheap way to progress through a film. It was as if I told you that Guy X had committed the crime, though there was no indication of this anywahere in my story.
HERE
In the works - a big grill/kegger for all and a pubcrawl for few. The best laid plans...

Since last monday I:
... met with five firms in the NYC area looking for jobs. On average, they went well, but that also means that none of them offered me a job. Now will come the finesse work of convincing them they need to hire me. This will be difficult and arduous, but hopefully it will happen sooner than later.
... read many many graphic novels. They are good.
... saw many of the beautiful sights of NYC, saw a lot of good people and enjoyed many many fine meals. If I lived out there, my biggest problem would be making my meager salary stretch to cover all the things I would want to do and see. But the biggest thing to remember is that walking is the true way to travel in a city as such and never underestimate the value of a comfortable pair of shoes.
... finally came back to the little apple and some more pressing financial woes.
... watched the movie The Court Jester and laughed my ass off.
... glued ass back on in studio today.
... backed my car into my neighbor's dad's denali. Don't worry, it's all just surface damage, to the paint and such. Oh yeah, that's the most expensive thing to fix. I hate cars - I miss my M-train.
So that catches everyone up on where I have been adn what I have done, in a big lump sum, not so much in the daily way that I had planned on telling everyone everything. I'd like to thank two wonderful hosts, you know who you are, and the five boroughs for hosting me on such a wonderful week.
I need to catch up with: 1, 2, 3, 4... people this week. If I don't, may my testicles be crushed by a enraged monkey. There, now I'm motivated.
And in a bit of introspection that I will make public (and thus outrospection?) I made the following list of goals and ideals to achieve in my last two months of school (actual list was made in my sketchbook in the Brooklyn Botanical Garden sitting under wonderful specimen of an American Planetree):
... Decrease stress - no more smoking, chewing gum, or chewing on my tongue. Focus on other physical outlets.
... Increase productivity time - set weekly goals for my studio project, daily goals for my acting class. Work longer hours in the evening and cluster activities.
... Increase personal time - run when I get up (energize with activity), read when I go to bed (calm with relaxation). Again, cluster activites.
... Eat three good meals each day. Decrease snacking.
... Drink more water.
Lesson learned this week: I am not afraid of New York. In reality, as I come back to the slow, stupid bliss of Manhattan, Kansas, I ought to be afraid of what New York can change within me.
Fortunately, there is always bowling.

Today: woke up, took subway to Times Square to meet a friend, took subway all over the place to eat in Queens at the Neptune, took subway to Grand Central Station, completed NY Times Sunday crossword puzzle, chilled at Grand Central, went to Virgin megastore, took many subways and trains back to Brooklyn, bought some groceries, read some magazines, ate delicious pasta and sauce, played scrabble, lost miserably, ate chips...

So here it is for those of you who aren't standing here in the room with me, furiously sorting their laundry in an attempt to recapture their lost seventh-grade youth:
Last night: Arrive at LGA, take cab to Brooklyn, wait while cabbie asks guy for directions, get to Brooklyn, take subway to Lower East Side, eat at Cafe, walk around Lower East(?) side for 4 hours. Sleep.
Today: Read Esquire, take subway to Midtown, find half the places I need to be this week, eat great pizza at Mercato for cheap, take subway to Second Avenue and 88th street, walk around Central Park, watch the Segue and the roller-skate dancers, contact a friend from the Little Apple, visit the Museum of Natural History, visit the time Warner Building on Columbus Circle, deal with dinner fiasco caused by too much planning, meet up with friends from the Little Apple, see Upright Citizen Brigade show, walk the entire lower half of the island in the rain, drink at the Pink Pony (not at the White Horse), sleep.

"Ohh yeah, that's the ticket. Yeah, right there. Oh man that feels great.
"Yeah, get in there. Faster. C'mon, do it faster, you know how I like it. Mmm, it's been so long, god I forgot how great this is.
"What, done? Oh, I don't think so, get back in there. That's right, faster, mmm, harder. Do it harder. Work it, you bitch.
"Oh, that's great. Just how I need it. Yeah, I'm so frickin' dirty. Give it to me and make me want it so bad.
"Jesus, I need this. That's right, harder, faster, you bitch. Oh god, that's great. Oh don't stop - please don't stop.
"And that's enough. I'm spent. Thank you, that was fantastic. It's never been that good before. Thank you."
- an actual transcript of my return to the manual, non-electric toothbrush.

I officially have a 45% in my studio class. I am failing the History of Jazz because I've turned in one paper (of two) and taken one test (of two), and have few plans to bring that running average up at all. I am doing poorly at my acting class because I don't have time to go to the plays and write papers about them. And just wait until baseball season starts and I can think of nothing else...
In less "fuck-school" news: 8 resumes / portfolios went out today. Plus I have two connections that I can use if I need to in the NYC. Axiously hold your breath as I will periodically update on this topic.
In music news: Coldplay is rocking my world.
In world news: Always remember - a vote for Nader is... well, a vote for Bush, really. But better than that, it seems like W couldn't be digging himself a better grave if he had a team of hanyaks working on it twenty hours a day.
In me news: My ego seems to be growing wholly unchecked. Sweet.
