Almost a line-by-line response. To everyone.
To You: Congratulations on employment. May it bring you years of pleasure and enjoyment. Forty years, to be exact. Also, UFB will be playing their final show ever in Lawrence, KS on March 6 at the Bottleneck. I know this is essentially a moot point for many, but I thought that those who enjoyed UFB as much as you (and I) did (do), may want to catch it one last time.
To You: How do I get a sassy looking picture on my own blog-page?
To You: Welcome back from oblivion. I finished The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier & Clay. It was good - I don't use the word 'brilliant,' but I will use the words 'a pleasure to read,' so thank you for the recommendation (and subsequent loan). I did like the end, because it ended like a story should end: with unresolved issues. It makes the story all the more believable because there is no epilogue or any 'this is what happened to them in the future.' I don't want their whole life story - I just want this story.
To You: You are exactly right - happiness is a state of mind. Which on one hand means that it can be artificailly created, but on the other hand means that it can be cultivated and maintained, dispite adverse outside influences. There are times in my life when I am in dire need of being 'made' happy. Frankly, sometimes I just need a serious can of happy beat into my thick skull. Sometimes I seek this state of mind through short-sighted and selfish means - have patience and I will come around in time. But every now and then, give me a swift kick in the teeth and remind me that, while the assholes are still lurking out there, they are not inside me and thus do not have to impact my life.
To You: I wholeheartedly agree. I don't think I could agree more. I will, however, qualify my definition of stupid to emphasize people who take their own interests of ease, gain, or luxury, over the basic needs and existence of those in their community.
To You: Got a computer problem? Consult this and then see if you agree that maybe the real problem is that we are only half-inventing the correct solutions and not spending enough time making sure they work, before racing ahead to the next invention.
Well, I think that is everything. Not exactly how I felt when I work up this morning, but much much better instead. Focus on maintaining that state of mind.
